Baseball Try-outs for Blake

This last weekend we made a little trip to Oregon to visit my sister Penny and her family! We were able to watch Blake at his try-outs and attend my other nephew's baptism! It was a great weekend and it was great to hang out with family!

My Treasure

 

You know the little love notes your mom used to leave in your lunch box? And how much you love finding it! Well the other day I came home from spending a wonderful afternoon with "MY KIDS" and found a folded up piece of paper in my purse! As soon as I realized what it was I started to cry! It was the sweetest thing! Annie had colored me a picture. Now this is special for a few reasons... Annie is so talented and I love everything about her! And the shirt she drew on me is her "favorite outfit" of mine. I adore everything about this picture and smile everytime I walk to the kitchen...It's so fridge worthy! This is one of the keepsakes I will forever treasure!

My Sweet Granny

It's been one year ago today that my sweet Granny went on ahead of us. I miss her more than I ever thought possible. But I am comforted to know that I will be able to see her again. I was able to spend about two weeks with her last January, and the time I spent with her is one of my most treasured experiences. Towards the end she didn't say much, but every time she looked in my eyes...I can't explain the love I have for that dear woman. I've never been one to be able to express my feelings with the depth I feel. But I am so grateful to have have had this woman in my life. I just wanted to share some of the reasons I loved my Granny. This is more for me, but I felt so strongly to express my feelings of her. So much so, that I can't seem to sleep. But I am almost thankful for this time to treasure her memory. How lucky I am to do so. I pray to never forget, or get to busy, that I don't take the time to recall the people that have been such a huge part of my life!I've had quite a tough time figuring out what some of my favorite things about Granny were...There were so many, it would be impossible to write them all! But I think some of my favorite memories with her are:
1. When I used to go over to her house and she would give me Apple oatmeal and caffeine free Pepsi.
2. When we would sit on the porch at the Beach house and eat Boiled Peanuts.
3. The times she would have me put in her "Ear Bobs"...(Earrings)!
4. How she would let my sister Gretchen and I play with her old Jewelry...sometimes decorating my brother Dan in snap-on earrings, necklaces and other jewelry!
5. The way she always let me snuggle, no matter how big I got!
6. How sweet she was...I can hardly recall her upset at anyone...except for maybe when my Grandad would tease her, but then again she always had a smile on her face in the same moment.
7. I loved the way she talked. I can almost hear her sweet southern accent..."Whatcha doin' Snucky-Fritz"..."Come here and give me some sugar"(Kisses & Hugs)...when we were being silly she'd say, "You're full of Malarky"!
8. Whenever we'd drive in the car and we saw a white horse, she would pinch me (because she usually saw them first)and then she'd say, "You owe me five cents!"
9. As a little kid, I loved when she would come to visit and she would surprise us as we got out of school!
10. But I think one of my favorite things was when she would tell me about her past. Growing up, how she met Grandad, about the fun things she'd done, about how women always went out with gloves and hats, especially at church. And I loved going through her pictures as well! She had a story for every single one!
I Cherish these memories I had with my Grandma. I am so grateful that one day I will be able to see her again!

Indian Corn Treats

The other day a friend of mine made this recipe as a part of a Family Home Evening Idea Night for her Relief Society. So today I thought I'd make them for a few of my neighbors! They turned out really cute...and they taste good too! Here is the recipe for anyone who is interested:

Indian Corn Treats
¼ cup (1/2 stick) Butter or Margarine
1 Package (10.5 oz) Mini Marshmallows
Yellow Food Coloring
4 Cups Reese’s Puffs Cereal
4 Cups Kix Cereal
10 Lollipop Sticks or Popsicle sticks

1.Line Large baking sheet with waxed paper; set aside.
2.Melt butter in large heavy saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows, stir until melted and smooth. Tint with food coloring until desired shade is reached. Add cereal; stir until evenly coated. Remove from heat.
3.With lightly greased hands, quickly divide mixture into 10 oblong pieces. Push lollipop stick halfway into each piece; shape like ear of corn. Place on prepared baking sheet. Let stand until set.
